Thanks for sharing this interview. I quite liked the format!

I watched the Ted Talk and the poems the LLM outputted surprised me. Like most poetry, it went over my head 😅 but it as also left wondering how the LLM produced it. Are we dealing with an unpredictable blackbox or is there a way to understand the logic that lead to that output? I think i'm posing the question to the right person (AI by Hand).

This quote also stood out to me:

"First, we underestimate how quickly these models can produce apparent novelty when you give them a strange enough playground" - is there a limit to producing "apparent novelty" - in the context of poetry, i guess its harmless, but it mission critical or decision systems, not so much?

Just thinking out loud - I don't have a particular position on any of this. This article definitely sparked my curiosity.

Great post Tom, my colleagues within the recruitment industry have said that ChatGPT has improved their business 10x, they use it in a case scenario of quelling objections from candidates and moving them from "no" to "yes". In an artistic sense, these tools are already replacing 10 person video production and graphic design teams.

But is a design process the same as looking to the boundaries of art? That's what the talk is about! What might it look like to create art that we have never created before? What does the next step on the artistic frontier look like? The poets are on the front lines ready to do that work.
